EL-EIN CAMP
The Rooster
when he is torn
from his midnight sleep
crows
like bereavement
an unnatural dawn
in a scream
without light;
and above the lemon trees
in our terrace orchard
the kohl-blue sky
and immense fuschia clouds
go racing
fast
hastening
so fast
until uncaring eternity.
